Omnimed has donated 68 boxes of endoscopy valve kits to Medigive, the global medical donation initiative created by Medi Tech Trust.
Each sterile three-piece kit contains suction, air/water and biopsy valves compatible with Olympus® endoscopes. These anti-leak biopsy valves are engineered to maintain insufflation, minimise leakage, and ensure reliable performance while supporting compliance with infection control best practices with no reprocessing.
Giving medical supplies a valuable second life
Hospitals in low and middle-income countries, as well as those in regions affected by conflict, can face serious shortages of essential medical supplies.
Medigive helps address this need by receiving donated medical equipment and surgical supplies and directing them to healthcare organisations where they can make a practical difference.
Over the past four years, medical items worth many millions of pounds have been donated through the initiative.
For Omnimed, this donation is also an important part of creating social value. Making good use of available stock supports healthcare professionals, reduces unnecessary waste and helps valuable products reach communities where the need is greatest.
From a local appeal to a global initiative
Medi Tech Trust was founded in 2002 by businessman Robert Lewis, Consultant Urologist Graham Watson and John Evans.
Its story began with a successful Millennium fundraising campaign for Eastbourne’s local hospital. When Robert later learned that the hospital needed a Holmium Laser, he established the charity to help provide it. Further lasers were subsequently donated to hospitals in Worthing and Chichester.
As the charity developed, its work expanded to include medical equipment donations, professional training and public healthcare education. Donated equipment is provided on a permanent loan basis, helping ensure that it remains protected and continues to serve its intended purpose.
In 2021, the charity moved into permanent premises in Hailsham and prepared for the launch of Medigive as a global initiative.
That same year, Medi Tech Trust received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, including a special designation for its support to the community during the pandemic.
