Omnimed’s Ben Lonsdale and John Wood attended the Northeast Public Sector Sustainable & Social Value Supplier Event on 26th March 2026 in Newcastle. This marked Omnimed’s first participation in the event, and it proved to be a highly worthwhile experience.
A Focus on Sustainability & Social Value
As the name, Northeast Public Sector Sustainable and Social Value Supplier Event, suggests there was a clear emphasis on sustainability and social value, reflected throughout both the programme and the wider discussions. The event brought together organisations from across the public sector and supply chain, all focused on driving meaningful social value and environmental responsibility within healthcare and beyond.
A range of speakers addressed key issues affecting the NHS and the wider healthcare sector, offering useful insight into current challenges as well as what lies ahead.
There was a strong representation from regional healthcare leadership, including Sir Paul Ennals CBE, Chair of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust, Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust and Gateshead Health Foundation Trust and on the board of Net Zero North East England.
Insights from the Day
The event also provided a valuable opportunity to network, allowing us to connect with others working in the space and engage with several of the sponsors. These conversations helped strengthen relationships and broaden our understanding.
Ben Lonsdale, Eco Supply Chain Assistant, said:
The event was informative and gave us plenty to reflect on. From a supplier perspective, it provided greater clarity on the direction the sector is heading and highlighted important considerations for the future.
John Wood, Commercial Manager, added:
Although it was a wider public sector event, there was a strong representation amongst the speakers including Sir Paul Ennals CBE. Personally I particularly enjoyed the presentation given by Jason Mitchell, Waste Manager at Newcastle Hospitals on waste hierarchy. It was humorous and a great insight to the challenges and potential benefits of the deployment of an effective waste hierarchy strategy within a healthcare environment.
