Delivering outstanding patient care and reducing environmental impact can go hand in hand. Blue Eye™ from Omnimed provides reliable submucosal lift during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures while supporting hospitals' journey towards greener endoscopy.
Used to create an effective and sustained submucosal lift during the resection of polyps, adenomas, early-stage cancers and other gastrointestinal mucosal lesions, Blue Eye™ is trusted for its clinical performance. Behind the scenes, however, the product has also undergone significant environmental improvements that are helping reduce carbon emissions, eliminate unnecessary plastic and lower its overall environmental footprint.
Fully Recyclable Packaging
Blue Eye™ manufacturer testing confirms that both the Blue Eye™ box and its accompanying blister packs are fully recyclable. This significantly exceeds the European Union's requirement of 65% recyclability, giving customers confidence in the product's environmental credentials. This switch to fully recyclable packaging was made in 2024 and, since then, based on the UK Government's Greenhouse Gas Reporting: Conversion Factors 2026, it has reduced carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by a total of approximately 770kg to date. Additionally, the carbon footprint associated with each individual box has been reduced by 81.79%.
This substantial improvement demonstrates how thoughtful material choices can provide meaningful environmental benefits without compromising product quality or safety. The outer transit box is made from lightweight, single-wall cardboard and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), ensuring the materials used come from responsibly managed forests.
Unnecessary Plastic Eliminated
Thanks to recent packaging improvements, approximately 235kg of unnecessary plastic has already been eliminated, preventing material that could otherwise have ended up in landfill or combustion facilities.
Compact, Space Saving Design
The compact design of Blue Eye™ means it takes up very little space, whether stored individually or in larger quantities. Its flat-sided box fits neatly alongside other products, helping to streamline storage and therefore facilitate ordering multiple units, which contribute to environmental savings by reducing the number of deliveries required. Fewer deliveries mean fewer transport emissions, helping to further lower the product's overall carbon footprint.
Delivery
Omnimed uses DPD as our courier, who have shown a commitment to investing in greener technology for a cleaner and more sustainable future. At present, 67% of DPD's heavy goods vehicle fleet now runs on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a 100% renewable fuel that significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional fuels. Additionally, 36% of DPD's final-mile delivery fleet is now electric. By choosing Blue Eye™ from Omnimed, customers are supporting greener logistics and more sustainable last-mile delivery systems.
